P5

P5

Below is the mock up that I am going to develop and adjust to make it better and have that as my main poster.

To the left is my final poster after I made changes to it and those changes included things like changing the picture of my friend I used in the poster and the layout of my poster and somewhere else on P5 I will go in to more detail on my poster.

To the left is a picture of how my poser would look like on a billboard sign.

I changed my poster from the original idea I had which was to have the innocent teenager being followed by a shadowed man with a knife but I changed the shadow to being a copy of the main character to show a dark side.

Poster Analysis

Process of Production

First I created the file on the Photoshop and the dimensions and the other things for setting up the poster is below.

Next I had to put the original picture of the background that I used in my poster and it is a picture of a wall that is on the street that I live on.

But because my poster had to be in portrait form and not landscape form I had to crop in and place it on the blank poster layout in portrait form which is below.

Next I had to add in the main part of the poster and that is my main character and below is the original picture I took the my friend out of.

After I had the picture I had to use the quick selection tool to select him out of the original photo as I only wanted him and not the background in my poster and I then placed him on my background I was using for the poster.

Next I knew I needed a shadow version of him so I dragged the picture of him on to a different Photoshop document and used the magic tool to select him and then I changed his opacity until it was just the outline of my friend but filled with black.

After that I dragged the shadow version back on to the main poster.

Next I had to get the main elements on the poster so I started of by getting the title and to get that I used http://www.1001fonts.com/horror-fonts.html and I used that website to get other things like actors names, the tagline and the release date. And the font I used was called Gypsy Curse and the first part of the title I got in Black and I placed that on my poster slanted at the top of my poster.

After to finish the title I put the second part of it on my poster and that part is white.

Next I decided to do the actors names and I also got them of 1001 fonts. So first I put in the name Riyad Ahmed and that was in white and it went to the top white on the side where the white part of the title is.

After that I had to put the second actor name in and that is Ryan Tillway and this was written in Black and put on the side where the black part of the title is.

The next thing to do was to put in the release date which was also from 1001fonts and I put that in the bottom right of the poster which is where I usually see it put on other posters. and I made it a grey/white colour.

After this I put in the tagline which is also from 1001 fonts and I put it just under my main picture which was the main charcter and the shadowed version of him as I knew the credits were going at the very bottom of the page and the tagline would not look good above the main picture. The tagline is also a grey/white colour which is the same as the release date.

Next I had to put in the final essential element to a poster and that is the credits and I used a template but changed the names in it and the companies on it as well I also added in some of my own jobs on their and removed others and I used the option to place it all in the middle. The font used for the credits was called steel tongs and I had to use a mac to get access to that as the PC I was making my poster did not have that font. I then placed the credits at the bottom of the poster underneath the tagline and to the left of the release date.

I then realised that the poster was too bright for a horror movie poster so I changed that by using the 'brightness and contrast' and ' hue and saturation' options in Photoshop to do that.

Above is the brightness and contrast settings.

Above is the hue and saturation settings.

Below is a picture of all the things I used in Photoshop and what is in my poster.

Evaluation

Background

At the start I had multiple different pictures of walls that I could use but I chose the white wall at night based on the fact that the picture was taken at night and all the other ones were taken during the day except for one other but I didn't like the wall. Even though I tried changing the brightness on the other pictures I just believed it didn't look good enough so in the end I decided to pick the white wall. This will also tell the audience that most of the horror happens at night and at this wall.

Text

I chose the fonts that I used because I felt like they were fonts that showed horror and are similar to fonts on real horror movie posters. The fonts for the title and the tagline looked more like horror fonts than any other text in my poster. I used my tagline as " the wall will swallow all " because I felt that it showed horror because it could mean death or possession. I added a tagline because I felt it would improve the look of the poster and to showing the storyline to the poster.

Character on poster

I had a lot of photos taken in the studio and I had to pick one of them to use in my poster and it was out of two but I chose this one in my poster because it looks like the character is walking and in my opinion I  think that made the poster better.

Conclusion

Overall I believe that my poster has the key parts that a horror movie poster has and that is darkness and something in the poster that is going to scare the viewer. The main part in the poster that I feel made it look like a horror movie poster was when I used the brightness/contrast and hue and saturation tools to change how light the poster was. I chose to use a shadow because a shadow can sometimes scare people if it not suppose to be there. I believe that if someone saw this poster they would be scared by it.
